If you are hoping to have a whiter and brighter smile, teeth whitening is a great option to help remove stains and discolorations. There are several options to whiten your teeth including – professional application by our dental team for in-office whitening or custom take-home whitening kits. Whitening treatments will only work on natural teeth and will not whiten any restorations. If you are thinking about getting any restorative work done such as veneers or bonding, you might want to consider whitening your teeth first.
Depending on the option that our team and you have decided on. In-office whitening appointments are usually about an hour long. Our team will start by placing a lip and cheek retractor and applying a resin barrier on your gums which will help protect your soft tissue from the whitening agents. This will then be followed with placement of the whitening gel for 2 to 3 20 minutes rounds.
For our take home bleaching kits – we will take an intraoral impression or scan of your upper and lower jaw and our dental laboratory will fabricate your custom bleaching trays. When you return to the office to pick up your trays and bleaching kit – our team will go over all the instructions to help you achieve you bright smile.
Tooth sensitivity is often a side effect of teeth whitening, however this is usually temporary and will resolve within a few days of treatments.
Factors such as diet and smoking, can play a role in how long the whitening effects last. However, Touch-up whitening treatments can be done to bring your bright smile back.
