During Your Visit

During your visit, Dr. Janet Kan will carefully assess your teeth for decay, cracks or broken areas, examine the tongue and surrounding tissues to screen for things like oral cancer, check your jaw and muscles for TMJ issues and discuss any other concerns that you may have. During your examination we will also be assessing your gums to look for any signs of periodontal diseases. Digital x-rays may be recommended in order for Dr. Janet Kan to properly diagnose decay, abnormalities, and periodontal issues.

Digital X-Rays

In order to make a proper diagnose of issues such as cavities and detecting bone loss around your teeth, we will recommend having digital x-rays. During you dental checkup, digital x-rays called bitewings are important part of diagnosing cavities between your teeth as well as assessing bone level. For most patients we usually recommend having bitewing x-rays taken yearly in order for issues to be detected early and also to monitor any issues.

In certain circumstances, we may also recommend periapical x-rays to further investigate issues if a tooth has been bothering you or showing signs of infection.

Every 3 to 5 years, a panoramic x-ray may be recommended. The panoramic x-ray shows a comprehensive view of your whole mouth and can reveal bone abnormalities, cysts, impacted teeth, infections and tumours.

Our team will also use our intra-oral camera to take photos of your teeth and existing restorations. In addition to this we will use our iTero Scanner if you are interested in treatment like Invisalign or if we would like to monitor things such as your bite, wear (attrition ), or recession.
