Tooth-Colored Fillings

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Dental fillings are used to restore a tooth that has a cavity or is chipped or fractured. Prior to tooth-colored fillings, teeth were filled with amalgam (silver) fillings. At Rideau Dental on 4 th Street, Dr. Janet Kan uses tooth-colored fillings which are made out of composite resin that bonds to the tooth structure providing protection as well as restoring the tooth&’s function and natural appearance.

During Your Visit

A tooth-colored filling can be completed in one appointment. At Rideau Dental on 4 th Street, we start by making the procedure more comfortable by placing a topical anesthetic in the area that will be worked on followed by local anesthetic to numb the area. The decay in the tooth will be removed with our dental drill and will then be cleaned and prepared for your filling. Layers of the composite resin will be used to replace the cavity and a special curing light will set the material. The filling will then be shaped, smoothed, polished and adjusted to your bite. After your procedure is complete, patients are generally able to resume their day.
