Calgary Dental Bridges
Fill the gap, restore your smile
Written by the Rideau Dental on 4th Street team. Reviewed by Dr. Janet Kan. Last updated October 2026.
What is a dental bridge?
A traditional bridge is a fixed restoration made of one or more replacement teeth, called pontics, held in place by crowns on the neighbouring teeth. Because it is cemented in place, it does not come out like a denture. It looks and feels like a natural part of your smile.
A bridge is often a good option when the teeth on either side of the gap are healthy enough to support it, or when they would benefit from crowns anyway. Dr. Kan will examine the area, take X-rays as needed and explain all of your tooth-replacement options so you can choose with confidence.

Frequently asked questions about dental bridges in Calgary
How long does a dental bridge last?
With good home care and regular check-ups, many bridges last well over a decade. Longevity depends on oral hygiene, bite forces and the health of the supporting teeth.
Does getting a bridge hurt?
The teeth are numbed during preparation, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain. Some mild sensitivity afterwards is normal and usually settles quickly.
Can I eat normally with a bridge?
Yes. Once it is cemented, you can eat most foods. Avoid chewing ice or very hard objects, which can damage any restoration.
How do I clean under a bridge?
Use floss threaders, a water flosser or small interdental brushes once a day to clean under the replacement tooth. We will show you how at your fitting.
Is a bridge my only option for a missing tooth?
No. Depending on your situation, a removable partial denture or a dental implant may also be options. Implants are placed by a specialist, and Dr. Kan can restore them here. She will explain the pros and cons of each.
Is a bridge covered by insurance?
Many plans cover part of the cost of bridges. We will review the estimate with you and help you understand your coverage before treatment begins.
